History of CNEBC
The Central New England Brittany Club originated in 1948 and became the second oldest Brittany Club in America. The club was formed because of the keen interest in what was then known as the Brittany Spaniel (formally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1934) a pointing and retrieving dog. The American Brittany Club was given final recognition by the AKC on July 14, 1944, coinciding with Bastille Day, appropriate for a dog of French origins. The word Spaniel was dropped by the AKC on Sept. 1, 1982, and became officially known only as “the Brittany”.
Mr. Lucien Ufford, of Bellows Falls, Vermont, was the first president of the CNEBC. He also had the distinction of having the first Dual Champion Brittany in the United States, Brit of Bellows Falls. Brit earned his field championship then his bench championship at Westminster. Brit's importance to the CNEBC was reflected in the celebration of our 50th Anniversary when he was proudly displayed on our T-shirts. We are currently celebrating our 60 plus years.
We are also proud to hold the distinction of having the first Brittany Specialty held in the East on August 20, 1960.
